World-class fishing in the Panama Canal — peacock bass, snook and tarpon, surrounded by the abundant wildlife inhabiting the Canal's numerous islands.
The day begins early with pickup at your hotel and a scenic 45-minute transfer through the former Canal Zone, passing the Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks, and continuing through lush rainforest to Gamboa, at the confluence of the Chagres River and the Panama Canal. At the marina, you'll board a fully equipped charter fishing boat — with a shade canopy, an electric trolling motor, two front swivel chairs, a live bait box, and full tackle, rods and reels.
After leaving the marina via the Chagres River, the boat speeds toward the Canal, passing giant Panamax ships in transit, before winding through the water channels surrounding numerous rainforest-covered islands, with shaded coves and inlets ideal for exploring.
The day is dedicated to fishing for peacock bass — a species introduced to Gatún Lake, world-renowned as a game fish — along with snook and tarpon. Young 2–3 pound peacock bass are abundant in these waters and tend to swim in schools, making this an outing suited to experienced anglers as well as beginners and families with children.
En route to the best fishing spots, the boat approaches rainforest-covered islands — former hilltops now surrounded by Gatún Lake — with the chance to spot white-faced capuchins, howler monkeys, Central American spider monkeys and Geoffroy's tamarins. The return to your hotel is in the early afternoon.
Food and beverages on board, dietary restrictions and any other particular requirement can be coordinated to tailor the experience to your occasion or preference.
